We're now in the 6th or 7th straight day of snow! The winter neighbor across the street, Ray, says that this is more snow than they had all last year. Wow! Think it's over 2 feet now and it isn't even winter! What will December, January and February bring us?
John spends most of the day hours raking off the roofs, porches, walkways and paths. I finally got out to shoot some photos of all this. The predictions show that out of the next 7 or 8 days, only 1 will be without snow.
I finally got online today, since we remain housebound, and ordered a pair of boots for each of us. John needs snow digging boots and I need some warm ones which are okay for walking through the snow but will be comfy enough to wear inside, too. Found what seems to fill the bill at the Walmart site! Several others had some we liked but none left in our sizes. We should see the boots in a few days and then we'll see.
Boiled down the turkey carcass today in a very big pot. Now we have lots of turkey scraps to use for soup and other things. There is a little bag of them for Jackie, too. I think that tomorrow I'll cook the soup up and then freeze it for future cold days.
Tomorrow we plan to try to get out of the park and down to Newport. The folks who have already gone to town are reporting the roads are clear, once we get out of our park. Several of them have had trouble on our exit roads, skidded around, ended in side ditches, etc. Nobody hurt and other guys from the park go to tow and rescue the unfortunate ones. Our truck runs well, now that we keep it on heater cord. The small snowblower at our end of the park broke its pull cord today. And the main snow plow truck ran off the road and into a ditch today. So much for driving around. I know that many in the small winter group are suffering from cabin fever and taking their chances to get out for a while. Some of them have relatives not more than 50 or 60 miles away.
We actually had a rise in temps today in the high 30s. Many roofs and trees are dumping snow all over the place.
| Jackie loves to eat the snow, (but NOT the yellow stuff!) |
Jackie walks around looking at all the windows, waiting for the next slide and crash. When John went out on the deck to push off the snow, Jackie had a fit. We finally understand what was bothering him; he was telling John to stop it before something came crashing down on him! He has it all figured out now, will be a good winter dog.
Guess I'll close this and drink a hot chocolate! T-t-t-talk at y-y-y-y-you l-l-later GW
